Jensen inducted into nursing honor society

Erica L. Jensen, a graduate of Morris Community High School’s class of 2005, and member of Illinois Wesleyan University’s class of 2010, was recently inducted into the Theta Pi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, an international nursing honor society.

The afternoon induction ceremony took place on Sunday, April 13, in Illinois Wesleyan’s Evelyn Chapel.
Sigma Theta Tau International was founded in 1922 at Indiana School of Nursing in Indianapolis. The founders chose the name Sigma Theta Tau from the Greek words Storge’, Tharsos, and Time’ because they mean, “love,” “courage” and “honor.”

Sigma Theta Tau International is the second largest nursing organization and one of the most prestigious in the world, with approximately 130,000 active members. The society has members in more than 86 countries and territories and has 463 chapters on college campuses around the world.

Membership is by invitation only to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship as well as to community members who demonstrate exceptional achievement in nursing.

The IWU chapter was established in 1983. Students are selected based on academic achievement, contribution to the profession, and on recommendation of chapter members. Student members must a have a 3.0/4.0 grade point average and rank in the upper 35 percentile of their graduating class.

Jensen has been active in the IWU Student Nurses’ Association, having served as treasurer. She has also participated in IWU’s Alternative Spring Break Program, where she worked in New Orleans and Galveston, Texas sites. She has served on the board of directors for the Alternative Spring Break Program at IWU.

Beginning June 1, Jensen will begin a 10 week med-surg nursing internship at BroMenn Regional Medical Center , a 224- bed, full-service, not-for-profit, hospital, located in Normal, Ill.

Jensen is the daughter of Eric and Linda Jensen of Morris.  Paternal grandparents are Louise Jensen, and the late John Jensen of Carbon Hill.  Maternal grandparents are the late George and Ruth Brancato.
