Scholtes faces charges for solicitation, child porn

Authorities are looking for additional incidents following Tuesday’s arrest of Timothy Scholtes of Coal City on federal and county charges.

The federal charge accuses Scholtes of receiving child pornography on his computer.

The county charge accuses Scholtes of indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 3 felony. He remains in the Grundy County Jail today on $20,000 bond.

Anyone in the area experiencing, or having knowledge of, similar incidents involving Scholtes, is asked to contact the Coal City Police Department at (815) 634-2341 or (815) 634-8533, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department at (815) 942-6645, or the Grundy County State’s Attorney’s office at (815) 941-3276.

Not married, Scholtes, 44, a longtime youth soccer coach, paramedic and firefighter, made his home with his parents.

His arrest stemmed from an incident said to have occurred in Coal City in April involving a 10-year-old player on Scholtes’ soccer team. Federal agents said the youngster told them his coach made a sexual advance toward him while driving him home.

After searching Scholtes’ home and computer, agents said they found child pornography. A preliminary search of his computer revealed at least 100 images and five videos. A camcorder and digital camera also were seized during the search.

Participating in the arrest were local police, county deputies, and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Authorities said Customs Enforcement entered the case because some of the child pornography involved countries outside the United States.
