Four blood drives set for June

Red Cross to host blood drive Monday

The American Red Cross reminds eligible individuals that the need for blood doesn’t take a vacation.
“Blood drives at high schools and universities account for about 20 percent of blood donations made through the Red Cross,” said Ken Buck, executive director of the Grundy County Chapter. “With school out of session during the summer, it’s especially important for people to donate blood.

“We hope that all eligible donors will consider donating, especially during the summer months when donations do decline but the need stays the same.”

Four blood donation opportunities are available in June.

The first community blood drive will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Grundy County Chapter of American Red Cross, 117 W. Washington St., Morris.

A second blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 E. McArdle Road, Coal City.

The next blood drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, June 15, at Wal-Mart Supercenter, 333 E. U.S. 6, Morris.

The fourth blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday June 27. The event, called “MeagSTRONG,” is an annual drive in honor of Meaghan McClintock. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 27 at Morris Country Club, 2615 W. U.S. 6, Morris.

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license, or two other forms of identification are required at check-in.

Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 years old with a signed Red Cross parental/guardian consent form where state permits, must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health.
