ESN honors retiring attendance specialist

A retirement reception honoring Peggy Georgevitch, attendance specialist, will be held at Gladys Fox Museum, 231 E. 9th Street, Lockport, from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 11.

The public is invited.

Georgevitch has helped youth in the greater Lockport area with school attendance during her 23 years at the Education Service Network, a program administered by the Grundy-Kendall Regional Office of Education and the Will County Regional Office of Education.

“We all value what Peggy has done for children,” said Paul Nordstrom, Grundy-Kendall Regional Superintendent of Schools. “A special quality in Peggy is that when a person talks with her, she makes each person feel valued. She has approached her job with joy and a love for people.”

“Peggy is a dedicated and hard-working person,” said Stacy Baumgartner, coordinator of ESN’s Attendance Assistance Program. “She is not only valued by the schools she serves in the Lockport and Crest Hill area; she has changed the lives of countless individuals and families.”

Georgevitch’s duties have included working with students and their families to improve school attendance. She has conducted small group sessions for students, provided home visitation services and collaborated with the criminal justice system and numerous community agencies.

Georgevitch requests in lieu of gifts that canned goods be given for the Lockport Pantry.

For more information about the reception, contact Joan Leigh at 815-941-3134.

ESN is a program of the Will County and Grundy-Kendall Regional Offices of Education. Cubs bring back Grabow, deal Heilman

I suppose it's been a pretty good week for the Chicago Cubs ... though there's a ton of work left to be done if the Cubs want to get back in a position to contend for a championship.

Lincecum, Greinke win Cy Young awards

Zack Greinke justly won the American League Cy Young award earlier this week. I'm not so sure Tim Lincecum of San Francisco deserved his second straight win in the NL, which he received today.
