Cahokia expert to lead program Saturday at Coal City library

The Will/Grundy Genealogical Society will meet for its regular monthly meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Coal City Library, 85 N. Garfield St.

William Iseminger, one of the world’s foremost experts on the Cahokia civilization, will present the program on “Mighty Cahokia: Prehistoric Indian City.” He holds an MA in Anthropology from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and has worked at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site for many years.

For 33 years, he has offered public programs on a great variety of subjects related to his work in Archaeology and the Native American cultures of the Upper Mississippi and Illinois River Valleys. In 1996, the Illinois Association of Museums honored him with their Lifetime Achievement Award.
