A flashback to the 1960s will bring the New Invaders to Morris from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18. The concert is one in a summer series the city of Morris and Mayor Richard Kopczick sponsor.
The New Invaders are truly "newm" as this inspirational ‘60s rock review ushers back in the fabulous invasion era of British rock 'n' roll, and the American response.
Powerfully packed with an incredible sound and a theatrical touch, the New Invaders roll out the red carpet with their classical style and repertoire of classic hit songs!
The New Invaders will take you on a journey that will never be forgotten. Song after song, note for note, hold on to your seat as they take you back in time to an explosive and historical musical time period unlike any other.
They will bring to this event songs that were legendary. Covering artists such as The Amboy Dukes, The Dave Clark Five, The Byrds, The Hollies, Beatles, The Monkees, The Rolling Stones, Paul Reviere and the Raiders, Billie J. Kramer and The Yardbirds.
Dave Nuccio, the leader of the New Invaders, was born in Chicago to a family passionate about music, and took the path that was in his blood. With a bachelor's degree in music theory and performance (piano), Nuccio taught music business classes and wrote musical jingles for Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Coors Beer.
Nuccio's love of music takes him presently to the classrooms of Saint Xavier University and Joliet Junior College. Forming the New Invaders was the birth of his ultimate quest for musical excellence, theater and showmanship.
Jim Herter hails from the south side of Chicago. Although his roots are in the Midwest, Herter and close friend Jim Caprio headed out west in the 1970s and found their niche in the L.A. scene.
Their band found themselves opening for the likes of Talking Heads, Romantics, Jan and Dean, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, and Gary Lewis and The Playboys. Herter plays lead guitar.
Heath Chappell, native of North Carolina and son of well-known author/novelist Fred Chappell, moved to the eastern seaboard for his college education in the arts. After backing artists such as Rosanna Cash and Tiny Tim, Chappell then moved on to Miami, Fla., where he finished his degree.
While in Florida, Chappell shared the stage with Miami Sound Machine, Stan Getz and Joe Williams. Coming to Chicago in 1994, he met up with Dave Nuccio.Chappell's musical energy and amazing talent served as the catalyst and vision to co-create, with Dave Nuccio, the New Invaders!
Joe Garcia, from suburban Chicago, is no stranger to the music scene. Beginning in 1976, Garcia successfully made a name for himself as a lead vocalist and guitarist. Playing both lead and bass guitar, Garcia's duality served him well as he made it into two top Beatles tribute acts and even backed Herman's Hermits.
Garcia is a multi-talented performer who is precise and ready to rock and roll.
Dave Huizinga, a "new" New Invader, grew up in suburban Chicagoland. He started playing at school dances and teen clubs in front of popular Chicago groups such as the Cryan Shames and the Shadows of Knight.
Huizinga's focus turned to recording and music production for the television industry. His credits include composing the music for Bill Kurtis' "The New Explorer's" and "Cold Case Files" on A&E Network. He is currently working on a new series for the History Channel, "Investigation History."
Folks attending should bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. In case of rain, high heat or humidity, the concert will be held at Morris Community High School in the auditorium. A sign denoting a location change will be placed on the courthouse lawn.
