
COLLEGE CORNER: Hanson awarded EIU scholarshipShelly Hanson, daughter of Richard and Deborah Hanson of Morris, was awarded the Eastern Illinois University (EIU) Isabel McKinney Undergraduate Scholarship. The award, established by Mr. Newton A. Tarble, is administered through the EIU Foundation and presented to an EIU student, in their second semester of University enrollment, majoring in English with a GPA of 3.2. The recipient must author a written paper, the subject being either of creative writing, literary, or historical criticism. Shelly is a 2007 graduate of Morris Community High School. Brittany Anne Buttry of Verona graduate summa cum Laude from Greenville College in Greenville, Ill. with a bachelor’s degree in psychology/religion and a bachelors degree in social work, along with a minor in teaching English to speakers of other languages. The ceremony took place on May 24, 2009. Brittany was selected for Alpha Kappa Sigma, an honor society that recognizes scholarship, Christian character and campus leadership. She graduated as a member of Psi Chi, a psychology national honor society and was voted Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Brittany completed a departmental honors thesis entitled “The Paradox of Empowerment and Oppression in the Lives of Hindu Women.” At the ceremony, she was a recipient of the distinguished Presidents Citation Award for outstanding academic achievement. Brittany maintained a 3.99 GPA for all four years at the college. She studied abroad in Kolkata, India through International Partnership of Service Learning and Leadership her junior year and also completed an internship in the inner city of St. Louis, Mo. with World Impact. Her future plans include volunteering with Ameri-Corp for a year before persuing a Masters Degree. Jon Sebby of Coal City, a current sixth trimester student in the Doctor of Chiropractic program at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, has been named to the Dean’s list for the fifth trimester. To be eligible for the Dean’s list, a student must achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 in all studies for the respective term. The highest possible GPA is a 4.00. |
