Georgia F. Powell

Mrs. Georgia F. Powell, 75, of Morris, and formerly of Ottawa, peacefully passed away Tuesday evening, Sept. 8, 2009, at Morris Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

Born Sept. 5, 1934, in Morris, Georgia was the daughter of George W. and Louise Cole Powell. She was educated in Morris schools, and she was a graduate of Morris High School with the class of 1952. She was also a graduate of Illinois State University, where she acquired a bachelor's degree and master's degree in business education.

She began her lifelong teaching career at Woodland High School in Streator. She then taught business, shorthand and typing at Ottawa High School for many years.

She enjoyed her flower gardens, playing bridge and traveling, including trips to Arlington, Ill., and Lexington, Ky.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Halterman of Morris; two nieces, Janet (David) Dix of Plattville, Ill., and Marsha (Terry) Nolte of Calif.; one nephew, Curt Halterman of Joliet; and special friend, Larry Thomas of Greenville, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Katheryn Guard.

Memorial services to celebrate Georgia's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at U.C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris, with Rev. Christy Taube Gantzert officiating.

Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the service time.

Cremation rites were accorded.
