Lloyd VogenNEWARK – Mr. Lloyd Vogen, 91, of Newark, Ill., died Wednesday evening, Sept. 9, 2009, at his home. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd., Newark. Born March 3, 1918, in Big Grove Township, Kendall County, Mr. Vogen was a son to Thor and Blanche (Fruland) Vogen. He attended Newark High School, where he actively participated in sports and graduated in 1937. In May 1942, he entered active duty with the Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a tail gunner in a B-24, and was discharged as a corporal. Later, he enlisted in the Reserves, serving from 1945 to 1946. Mr. Vogen was active in the community, serving on the Newark Grade School Board. He was also a member of the Stavanger Lutheran Church, was a charter member of the Fern Dell Association, and a member of the Sons of Norway, the Milk Association Board, and the Newark American Legion Post #459. He married Joyce Barnes on Dec. 4, 1949, in Joliet. Joyce passed away Sept. 13, 1977. They had one daughter, Barbara. On March 1, 1991, he married Mary Alice Johnson at the Stavanger Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling and making homemade floats for local hometown parades. Surviving are his wife, Mary Alice; his daughter, Barbara (Brian) Hermann of Serena; five granddaughters, Brynn, Jade, Baileigh, Blair and Jessa Hermann; two great-grandchildren, Landon Hermann and Grayson Skinner; a sister, Beatrice Thomas of Florida; a brother, Jerry (Shirley) Vogen of Newark; a sister-in-law, Vivian Vogen of Newark; and his caregiver, T. J. Zaborniak. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce; and a brother, Russell Vogen. Pallbearers will be nephews Jim Vogen, Brian Vogen, Greg Vogen, Jeff Vogen, Dave Chelson and his caregiver, T. J. Zaborniak. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters. Memorials may be directed to the Ottawa Regional Hospital Hospice or the Stavanger Lutheran Church. Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd., Newark, is in charge of arrangements. |
