Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Aaron S. Ralls is returning to Freeport, Ill., after being deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners.

Reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been mobilized, activated and deployed along with active duty members to support the war against global terrorism.

Mission objectives encompass combating the international terrorist network or regime forces outside the borders of the United States.

U.S. troops serve in South and Southwest Asia, Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.

Ralls, a platoon sergeant with 21 years of military service, is normally assigned to the 33rd Military Police Company.

He is the son of Donald and Barb Ralls of E. Old Pine Bluff Road, Morris, Ill.

The sergeant received a bachelor’s degree in 2000 from Northern Illinois University.
