DIAMOND — Mrs. Virginia E. Buis, 88, of Diamond and formerly Oak Forest, Ill., was called home to the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at her home.

Born Feb. 24, 1921, in LaGrange, Ill., Virginia was the daughter of the late Frank and Thelma Lewis-Block. She was raised and educated in LaGrange, and was a graduate of LaGrange High School with the Class of 1939.

Virginia married Peter Richard Buis on Aug. 20, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo. Together, they lived their entire married life in Oak Forest until moving to Diamond in August 2006.

Virginia was employed for 20 years as a secretary for Arbor Park School District in Oak Forest until her retirement. She was a charter member of Tinley Park Reformed Church. Since moving to Diamond, Virginia attended Coal City United Methodist Church, and was known for her love and devotion to her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy (Jerry) Sidenstick of New Lenox; son, Peter (Debi) Buis of Longwood, Fla.; three granddaughters, Geri (John) Kratochvil of Goose Lake, Vicki (Ed) Cantwell of New Lenox and Wendi (Brad) Hauck of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, Peter Buis of San Francisco, Calif., and Andrew Buis of Longwood, Fla.; four great-granddaughters, Carolynn Kratochvil, Becki Cantwell, Renee Kratochvil and Kaitlin Hauck; three great-grandsons, Paul Kratochvil, Ryan Cantwell and Zachary Hauck; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Buis of Crestwood, Ill., and Eva Buis of Manteno; and several nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter Richard Buis on Sept. 30, 2007; and one brother, Robert Block.

Visitation and video tribute will be held from 5 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Tinley Park Reformed Church, 16530 Ridgeland Ave. in Tinley Park, with Pastor Mel DeVries officiating. A private family interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Virginia’s memory to The Tinley Park Reformed Church.
