Arthur C. Harder

WENTZVILLE, Mo. — Mr. Arthur C. "Bud" "A.C." Harder, 79, of Wentzville, Mo., formerly of Centralia, Ill., and Jefferson City, Mo., died at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, Mo.
Born March 10, 1930, in Morris, Mr. Harder was the son of Arthur W. and Margaret (Craig) Harder. He graduated from Morris High School and received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He married Jean Nierman on June 15, 1952, in Hoyleton, and she survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack Harder.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Philip Harder of Union City, Tenn., and Michael (Angela) Harder of Morris; one daughter, Julie (Chad) Yost of Warrenton, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jacob Harder, Megan Harder and Cody, Emilie, Chloe and Cade Yost; a sister-in-law, M.E. Harder of Morris; and many nieces and nephews.
Arthur "Bud" served his country in Korea. He was a member of the VFW.
He retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue. He was a member of TKE fraternity and retained many close friends through the years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wentzville, and the First United Presbyterian Church in Centralia. He was also a SIU alumni, a past member of Meadow Woods C.C., Greenview Golf Course, a supporter of the Recreation Center building project and the Centralia Cultural Society. He enjoyed playing golf, bridge, traveling and watching sports on TV.
Bud was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the First United Presbyterian Church with Dr. Edwin Evans officiating.
Interment will be at the UCC Cemetery in Hoyleton.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Garnier & Sons Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the church.
Memorials in his honor may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church or to the Centralia Cultural Society. The will be received at Garnier & Sons Funeral Home.
