Morris Hospital puts restrictions on number, age of visitors

A restricted visiting policy is in place at Morris Hospital due to the increase in flu cases in the region.

“This is the same policy we follow during the peak of any flu season, although this year we began restricting visitors on Oct. 20, which is significantly earlier than prior flu seasons,” Gail Steele, infection control practitioner at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers, said.

“The visiting restrictions are necessary for the protection of our patients, their families and our health care providers.”

Under the policy, visiting is restricted to two immediate family members, ages 18 and older.  Children under the age of 18 may not visit patients at this time.

“Anyone who brings children to the hospital will be asked to have the children wait with a responsible adult in the hospital’s main lobby on first floor while other family members are visiting,” Steele said. “However, it’s really best to avoid bringing children to the hospital if at all possible, unless they are coming here for their own medical care.”

The only exception is the Family Birthing Suites, where children may visit a newborn sibling, provided the children visiting do not have any signs of illness. All visitors to the Family Birthing Suites are being asked about any possible illness before entering the unit.

Signs posted at Morris Hospital also indicate any individuals with cold or flu symptoms should not visit patients in the hospital. Visitors may be asked to leave if they display symptoms of illness.

“We thank the public for their understanding and cooperation during this time of restricted visiting,” Steele said. “We plan to keep the policy in place as long as necessary in order to provide the safest possible health care environment.”

Cubs bring back Grabow, deal Heilman

I suppose it's been a pretty good week for the Chicago Cubs ... though there's a ton of work left to be done if the Cubs want to get back in a position to contend for a championship.

Lincecum, Greinke win Cy Young awards

Zack Greinke justly won the American League Cy Young award earlier this week. I'm not so sure Tim Lincecum of San Francisco deserved his second straight win in the NL, which he received today.
