BRIEFS: Reed-Custer school to honor veterans Nov. 12BRAIDWOOD — Reed-Custer Primary School will host two celebrations for local veterans and active military service people on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009. Weather permitting, those attending will gather around the school flagpole at 9 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. for an official flag raising and the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. They will then proceed to the gym for additional activities. All veterans and current military are invited to attend and be honored. Honored guests will include members of the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad, Illinois Patriot Guard Riders, American Legion, VFW, area veterans and current military. Also families and friends are invited to participate in RCPS’s “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” project. A yellow ribbon with the name you submit written on it will then be tied onto the big blue spruce in front of the school. These ribbons will remain on the tree until the elements have removed them. The public is cordially invited to attend this event and honor veterans at either or both sessions. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy the many military photographs on the “Wall of Fame” at the end of the hallway. Reed-Custer Primary School is located at 35445 Washington St., Custer Park. NEWARK — The Kendall County Farm Bureau and Newark FFA Chapter is co-sponsoring the 22nd annual Farm Toy Show on Sunday, Nov. 22. This event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Newark High School in the gym. A $2 donation will be collected at the door.
