Reckless driving complaint leads to charges against three

TWO MEN were arrested on drug charges in Diamond after deputies responded to a reckless driving complaint about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Lester Case, 32, 575 S. Mazon, Coal City, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and held in the county jail for a court appearance.
Gordon Martin, 62, 12 Sportsman, Diamond, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and given a Nov. 30 court date.
Katherine Johnson, 28, 375 Division St., Braidwood, was charged with obstructing police when she ran from the back of the residence at 12 Sportsman.
She was held in the county jail on a Cook County warrant for possession of a controlled substance. There was no bond on the warrant.
Deputy Lonnie Harvey said he received a complaint of a reckless driving incident and was told the offending driver was on Illinois 113 in Diamond.
Coal City police identified the car as belonging to Martin. Deputy Harvey went to 12 Sportsman in Diamond, where he located the car.
Deputy Harvey was told the reckless driving incident occurred on Interstate 55 in Will County, so he contacted Illinois State Police to send a trooper to the scene.
The deputy reported Martin and Case did not smell of alcohol, but they appeared nervous. Martin gave him permission to search the vehicle.
Deputy Harvey reported he did a patdown search of Case, who was a passenger in the car. He found a bag in his pocket containing suspected cocaine.
On the ground in front of the car, he found another bag containing a powder, possibly heroin.
Deputy Harvey reported that, when checking the car, he found a bag by the console which contained two glass pipes and a syringe. Martin denied any knowledge of the items.
Deputy Harvey said he was told Johnson had gone into the residence. A computer check showed she was wanted in Cook County.
He reported Johnson refused to open the door, but a short time later, witnesses said she had gone out the back door.
Deputies and Coal City police searched the area on foot and located Johnson. Charged with obstructing, for running from the residence, she was held for a Cook County deputy.
Trooper R. Caves conducted the reckless driving investigation.
