Group seeking input on Canal Corridor’s future

Comments (...)

LA SALLE — The Canal Corridor Association will coordinate the development of a comprehensive management plan for the historic Illinois and Michigan Canal.

The CCA will work in cooperation with the National Heritage Corridor and National Park Service.

The plan will consider state and local plans and involve residents, local governments, and public agencies and private organizations in the Corridor.

Recommendations will be sought for the corridor’s conservation, funding, management and development. Included will be actions proposed  government and nongovernmental agencies and private organizations to protect resources in the corridor.

Four public forums will be conducted to obtain ideas for the management plan. The forums will be conducted in four of the 49 communities along the corridor.

Topics will include long-term vision, mission of the corridor, concepts of a general management plan, continued public input and feedback and the initial stages of the roadmap for the year-long planning process.

Because of space considerations, those who intend to participate should make their  reservations beforehand.

Follow-up sessions will be in early 2010. The sessions will be based on results of the public input, review by the civic engagement committee,  and the CCA’s board of directors.

The initial public forum is at the Morris Public Library, 604 N. Liberty St., from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16. For reservations, phone (815) 942-6880.

The second session is in the board room at the Lemont Village Hall, 428 Main St., Lemont, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17. The phone is (630) 257-1550.

The third session is at the Lock 16 Center, 754 First St., La Salle, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The phone is 815-223-1851.

The final session is at the Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, 25055 W. Walnut Lane, Channahon, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. The phone is 815-722-9470.

Reservations are due this week by calling 815-223-1851.

Though it has been reported on during ESPN's scrolling The Lead all week, I still don't know for sure if Indianapolis DE Dwight Freeney is going to play in tonight'sSuper Bowl XLIV.

Martz hired as Bears offensive coordinator

It figures that the same day I pen a column ripping the Chicago Bears for their lengthy search for an offensive and defensive coordinator, they actually go and hire one.
