Dr. Rebekah Jo Moss-Fletcher

DECATUR, Ala. – A memorial service for Rebekah Jo Moss-Fletcher, 53, of Decatur, Ala., will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Decatur, with Roselawn Funeral Home directing.
The Rev. Richard Lawson and the Rev. Sandra Locke-Godbey will officiate.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor beginning two hours prior to the memorial service. A private burial in Decatur City Cemetery will follow the service.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Propst, Leon Felts, Dr. Hugh Nabors, Tony Estes, Ken Schuppert, Brent Miller, Gavin Whatley and Bill Fletcher.
Dr. Moss-Fletcher died on Nov. 12, 2009, at Decatur General Hospital.
Born Feb. 4, 1956, in Ft. Worth, Texas, Dr. Moss-Fletcher was a daughter to Roger Henry Moss and June Watchinski Moss. She grew up, the second of three children, in Moundville, Ala.
She graduated as class valedictorian from Hale County High School, where she played varsity volleyball and was a cheerleader. She received her bachelor of arts degree in honors English, magna cum laude, from The University of Alabama, where she was a member of several academic honoraries, including Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Eta Sigma, Phi Beta Kappa, Alpha Epsilon Pre-Med Honorary, Chi Delta Phi National Literary Honorary, and the Arts and Sciences Honor Program.
She was also a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
After received her medical degree from the University of South Alabama, she complete her residency in ophthalmology at Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, La. She went on to complete a Fellowship and teach there while her husband completed his residency through Tulane University.
She was Board Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and was a member of many professional organizations throughout her career, including serving as a board member for the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology. She shared a medical practice with her husband at the Eye, Ear, Nose & Throat Clinic of Decatur.
Dr. Moss-Fletcher enjoyed antiquing, gardening, reading and traveling, and she loved entertaining friends. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church for more than 20 years, where she also taught adult Sunday school.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Steven Marion Fletcher; two sons, Forrest Steven Fletcher and Hunter Moss Fletcher; her parents, Roger Henry Moss and June Watchinski Moss; a brother, Dr. Roger H. Moss Jr.; and a sister, Patricia J. Moss, all of Decatur, Ala.; along with nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Samuel Osmer Moss and Henrietta Johnson Moss of Hearne, Texas, and Walter Herman Watchinski and Bessie Domemann Watchinski of Morris, Ill.
