Are you missing an iPod?By Jo Ann Hustis - jhustis@morrisdailyherald.comYORKVILLE — Burglaries don’t stop at county lines, says Kendall County Sheriff’s Deputy Rick Pearson, who is looking for the owners of unidentified stolen property. The department has several hundred items recovered by deputies from vehicle burglaries, but not identified by their owners. “We’re trying to reach out to the larger community and let them know we have these stolen items, and we can’t identify the owners,” he said Friday. In a similar case a couple years ago, people from other states called Kendall County in attempts to identify items they had lost in burglaries. “Whether this property leads us to other jurisdictions, we don’t know,” Pearson noted. The current stolen property was recovered after Kendall County deputies arrested three suspects during a traffic stop about 3 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, in the 200 block of Riverside Drive in Yorkville. Arrested on charges of burglary to a motor vehicle were William J. Bobik, 18, of Montgomery, and David L. Punda, 19, and Michael J. Rohrer, 19, both of Plano. Pearson said a search of the homes of the three turned up property stolen from other vehicles during the past several months. The unidentified items were sorted, photographed, and grouped together, their model and serial numbers were logged, and the property placed in safekeeping to await the owners. The bulk of the stolen items consists of electronics. There is some clothing and a few tools, but the the majority includes global positioning systems, car radios, iPods, CD players, and the like. “Electronics sell pretty high on the market,” he said. “A GPS unit alone is about $125. Some people pay more than that for really quality GPS systems.” Deputies will store the unidentified items in the evidence locker until they are identified, or the Kendall County state’s attorney declares the case closed. “Then after a certain amount of time, we can destroy or dispose of the property,” Pearson said. “We don’t have much of that happening, though.” Those victimized the past several months by vehicle burglaries or thefts are encouraged to contact Detective Hatten at the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department. The phone number is (630) 553-7500, Ext. 1125. They may also contact their local law enforcement agency to complete an incident report documenting their loss. Comments
