YMCA, Immaculate Conception on agenda for planning commissionBy Michael Farrell - mfarrell@morrisdailyherald.comMatters concerning the annexation of land for the new YMCA, plans for the new Immaculate Conception Church and the new Mobil Super Pantry will be reviewed when the Morris Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2. Because of a lack of quorum for the regular November and December meetings, the commission scheduled a special meeting for Dec. 2. The Ron Evenson and Mark Jorstad families will present rezoning requests for portions of 77 acres between U.S. 6 and Interstate 80, west of Saratoga Road, which is to be annxed into the city. When land is annexed into the city of Morris it is automatically zoned R-1 (single family residential. The commission will be asked to recommend rezoning two 15-acre parcels along U.S. 6 to commercial (B-3). One parcel will be the site of a YMCA building while the other will be available for commercial development. A request to rezone the northern 22.27 acres of the parcel to R-3A for townhouses will also be presented. The remainder of the parcel will be a school site for Nettle Creek District 24C and a park site for the city of Morris. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliet and Immaculate Conception Church will seek a conditional permitted use to allow construction of a church in a residential zoning district. On Nov. 12 the city’s Development Review Committee approved the plans for the new church after the seating capacity was reduced to bring it in line with the number of parking spaces available. Tri Star Marketing, owner of the Mobil Super Pantry, will seek a conditional permitted use to allow a drive through car wash at their facility at Division and Bedford Road. The Development Review Committee has approved plans for the reconstruction of the entire gas station and the addition of the car wash. Morris Hospital will seek conditional permitted uses to allow offices in houses at 1320 and 1324 Liberty Street, adjacent to the hospital complex. Planning Consultant Michael Hoffman of Teska and Associates will discuss the initial draft of the updated comprehensive plan with commission members. Comments
