Drowsy woman nearly drives into Illinois River

A SENECA driver went off Illinois 71 and stopped on the edge of the Illinois River about 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29.

La Salle deputies reported Deborah Konya, 59, 263 E. Jackson St., Seneca, was driving on Illinois 71, near 1251st Road in South Ottawa Township, when she fell asleep.

When Konya awakened, she hit the accelerator instead of the brake. Her car went off the road and traveled 354 feet through thick brush and stumps before stopping at the edge of the Illinois River.

No tickets or injuries were reported.
